The Sacred Valley

Located roughly ten miles from Cuzco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas extends from Pisac to Ollantaytambo along the Urubamba River, also known as the “Sacred River”. The Sacred Valley was one of the most important land areas to the Incas, due to its rich soil and excellent weather. Many of the Villagers in Cuzco and the Sacred Valley live as they did centuries ago.

While enjoying Peru travel Experience the Sacred valley and its nearby areas. Take a tour of the Indian village of Pisac, trade and barter with the villagers at the famous Pisac Market on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday. The surrounding area is famous for its sacred Inca fortress, which is located down the river at Ollantaytambo. The remains of the Inca fortress is mainly terraces, at the top of the fortress is located the Temple of the Sun. The temples unique positioning lies directly in the path of the winter and summer solstices.

The town of Ollantaytambo is the best preserved Incan site left in Peru. Locals of the town still live in stone houses, use the same irrigation systems, the villagers dress and speak in much of the same way as years ago.
