Just south of Lima, lies the Paracas National Park of Peru. With warm climate year round and authentic culture, the Paracas National Park is an experience one will never forget. The range of wildlife is immense, especially in the Ballestas Islands, where thousands of sea lions and seals can be admired as well as a variety of birds and other wildlife that are unique to this Peruvian region such as penguins, otters, and dolphins. One of the most popular ways to reach these islands is by speedboat and along the way, the famous “Candelabra,” one of the many mysteries of the Nazca culture can be witnessed. Underneath the sands of the Paracas peninsula, cemeteries were discovered by Peruvian archaelogist, Julio C. Tello which contained the Paracas Mummies, another reason the Paracas are well known for. These can be viewed at the Gold Museum, Larco Herrera Museum and the National Museum in Lima, Peru where they have been preserved and displayed. The Paracan natives have also been highly advanced in medicine, especially their cranial trepanations and the manipulation of their skulls for a lengthier head. These can also be observed in the surrounding museums in Paracas.
